Windermere Golf & Country Club is actively searching for an enthusiastic and detailed individual to join the Turf Team. Candidates should possess a thorough understanding of horticulture, including the production and management of plants, the management of pests, landscapes, soils, and water systems to achieve productive and sustainable systems.

The Windermere Golf and Country Club is an equity-based private club in Edmonton, Alberta, and exists for the exclusive use of its shareholders, associate members, their family and invited guests. Windermere’s vision is to be “The Golfer’s Private Club of Choice” and is considered by many to be one of the finest golf clubs in Western Canada. The course has seen a complete renovation and is consistently ranked within the top 100 courses in Canada by Score Golf, most recently 58th in 2022. The addition of a beautiful new clubhouse in 2011 has allowed the club to elevate its offerings to members and guests. Description of Role

The Horticulturist reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. This is a year-round position, where the successful applicant will be responsible for contributing to premium conditions and an exceptional golf experience through the landscaping and maintenance of ornamental and shrub beds across the property.

Responsibilities and Duties

Candidate Responsibilities:

  • Design and maintain ornamental flower and shrub beds throughout the property
  • Knowledgeable and up to date on current industry trends
  • Knowledge of proper pruning and deadheading techniques
  • Ability to identify and correctly treat ornamental pests and disease with proper pesticide and herbicide applications
  • Accurate record keeping
  • Ability to adhere to budget and purchase plant material accordingly
  • Ability to work independently or direct a small crew
  • Ability to safely operate small vehicles, power tools and equipment
  • Physical Demands: walking, lifting, bending, and kneeling and the ability to lift 50lbs
  • Perform any additional duties that are deemed by management to be integral to the position
  • Perform any additional duties through the winter months in accordance with winter operations
  • Effectively communicate with Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent(s)

Desired Experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ideally, a 2-year Diploma or 4-year Horticulture Degree. Candidates who may not possess relevant education will be considered and assessed on their prior experience in the workplace.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License

Compensation and Perks

Compensation Package:

  • Base Salary Range $54,000-57,000 commensurate of applicant’s experience
  • Health Benefits Package-Medical, dental & health spending account (after 3 months)
  • Matching RRSP up to 2.5% of base salary (after 3 month)
  • 3-Weeks paid vacation (dates taken to be agreed upon with Superintendent)
  • Professional Association fees paid
  • $250/year clothing allowance
  • $50/month cell phone allowance
  • Golf and driving range privileges (some restrictions apply)
