Nestled in the outskirts of West Edmonton, and minutes away from St. Albert, the Glendale Golf & Country Club is one of Edmonton’s premier private golf courses. Established in 1961 and designed by golf course architect Norman Woods who spent time under the tutelage of Stanley Thompson, Woods integrated natural contours and elevation changes creating a unique and challenging layout for any level of golfer. Surrounded by forested landscapes and scenic views, Glendale offers an ideal retreat from city life, combining natural beauty with strategic design.

Description of Role

This Turf Internship is designed for individuals who aspire to build a career in turf management.  Interns will work closely with Glendale’s leadership team in an environment that values passion, creativity, and teamwork.  While priding ourselves on details and providing exceptional daily playing conditions, interns will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in:

  • Daily course setup and ensure consistent optimal playing conditions
  • Leadership within 35+ team members
  • Variety of cultural practices aimed at enhancing turf health and playability
  • Irrigation adjustments and repairs to ensure efficient and effective watering practices
  • Moisture management through daily monitoring, hand watering, and nightly irrigation setup
  • Chemical and fertilizer calibration and application
  • Preparation and completion of on course projects
  • Networking and professional development through AGSA events
  • Record keeping of daily tasks, course conditions, and chemical and fertility applications

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Demonstrate and adhere to club’s mission and core values
  • Work as an active member of the Turf Care Leadership Team, contributing to the upkeep of all aspects of the golf course and club property
  • Ensure the safe use and handling of all equipment needed to complete assigned tasks
  • Assist in the implementation of the club’s fertility program
  • Aid in maintaining moistures while performing necessary tasks to ensure irrigation system operates effectively and efficiently
  • Supervise and lead small crews to complete tasks and projects efficiently, while ensuring all work meets club standards
  • Aid in daily course setup maintaining optimal presentation and playing conditions
  • Maintain a tidy personal appearance and present oneself in a professional manner

Desired Experience

  • Completed or currently enrolled in Turfgrass Management, or related field of study
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter and able to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Quick learner with great attention to detail
  • Desire to pursue a career as a Turf Care professional
  • Currently have or ability to obtain Pesticide Applicators License

Compensation and Perks

  • Full-Time; Seasonal (Start date negotiable); $21.50/ Hour
  • Flexibility in shifts, however early morning and weekend availability required.
  • Attendance of select AGSA events and Property Managers Conference
