Summary
The Calgary Golf and Country Club (CGCC) established in 1897 is a private golf course centrally located in the city of Calgary down stream of the Glenmore Reservoir along the Elbow River. CGCC has been in its present location since 1911 and has gone through two restorations of the Wille Park Jr. 18-hole layout with first carried out in 2006-07 and the most recent restoration carried out in 2019-20 seasons. The undulating property is placed on 132 acres and is well treed throughout playing host to average of 26,000 rounds of golf. The CGCC offers year-round club life experiences for members and their guests requiring the grounds department attention to property detailing excellence all year-round.
Description of Role
As an integral member of the CGCC grounds department management team, the Assistant Superintendent will work directly with the Grounds Management team to oversee the day-to-day operations of the golf course. This role involves leading a 40-person grounds crew and striving for excellence in all aspects of grounds management, both personally and professionally.
Responsibilities and Duties
Collaborative management of:
- creating a positive work environment
- ensuring human resource management best practices are followed
- ensuring health and safety best practices are followed
- being excellent communicators to members, other departments and within our grounds team
- golf course daily maintenance scheduling, participation, data collection, and recording
- golf course product purchasing, scheduling, calculation, application, implementation, and recording
- golf course cultural program scheduling, implementation, and recording
- golf course irrigation programing, system maintenance, data collection, and recording
- ensuring equipment and grounds building are cared for following the Equipment Manager’s standards
- off season scheduling of priorities with tree & shrub care, snow detail, seasonal décor management, and winter activity upkeep
Desired Experience
- Graduate from a recognized golf course management program and or Post Secondary Education, both would be an asset
- Minimum 5 years in a leadership role at a golf course and minimum 10 years of industry experience
- CGSA or GCSAA accreditation would be an asset
- Valid Alberta Pesticide License (or willingness to obtain within one year).
Compensation and Perks
- Salary ranges from $80,000 to $100,000 based on the successful candidate experience
- Year-round employment
- Work week that consists of 5 days on and 2 days off. There are weeks where a 6th day may be needed.
- 4 weeks vacation (one week can be taken during golf season)
