Wintergreen is an 18-hole semi-private course located west of Bragg Creek in the Rocky Mountain foothills. Wintergreen golf course is owned and operated by Resorts of the Canadian Rockies Inc.

Description of Role

The Assistant Superintendent is entrusted with the maintenance of the golf course and surrounds and staffing. In addition, working with the Superintendent is responsible for implementing all the turf care maintenance practices for the golf course facility. Also required is advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices; a working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices and methods; and thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf. The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for the training, and scheduling of all turf care employees for the daily maintenance of the golf course.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Interview, hire, train, direct and supervise a staff of employees for the purpose of maintaining the properties. The Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent work together in preparing and implementing the annual maintenance programs
  • Ensure that proper staff training is carried out regarding procedures, health and safety training and equipment operation
  • Lead daily meetings with Turf Care staff; update employees on schedule variations, work progress, and setting goals
  • Be responsible for entering and approving employee hours
  • Represent the Turf Care department on the Wintergreen Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Assist with course maintenance as necessary. This is a hands-on role where you will be leading by example
  • Have a strong understanding of the golf course layout to ensure duties can be carried out safely and without disruption to players

Desired Experience

  • Possess excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Have experience with calibration and operation of a boom sprayer
  • Have operational knowledge of all Turf Care equipment
  • Are a holder of a Class 5 Drivers License
  • Have a minimum of 3 years related experience
  • Possess post-Secondary education in related areas (Turf Grass Management Diploma or in the process of obtaining it)
  • Have your Alberta Pesticide Applicator License or are willing to obtain
  • Must have a valid Canadian Work Permit
