Calgary Golf and Country Club is an 18-hole private golf club located just minutes away from downtown Calgary. Established in 1897 and relocated to its current site in 1911, the Club features a classic Willie Park Jr. design and has maintained its original Poa annua push-up greens for more than 114 years.

The club features a classic Willie Park Jr. design with golden age architecture and linear cut lines. At the Country Club we pride ourselves in delivering the best possible playing conditions every day of the week for the club’s members and guests.

Description of Role

We are seeking a highly driven, detail-oriented turf professional(s) to join our Turf Management team as a Second Assistant Superintendent. This leadership role works closely with the Grounds Management team to consistently deliver outstanding playing conditions and uphold high standards across the property.

As an integral part of daily operations, the Second Assistant will take ownership of key maintenance functions, lead staff through course preparation tasks, and contribute to agronomic programs and decision-making. We are committed to supporting your continued professional growth, building on your existing turf experience, and preparing you for future advancement within the industry.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Directly involved in assisting the leadership team with managing the Grounds Department on a day-to-day basis.
  • Assist in managing all aspects of 7-day prep for daily play.
  • Actively involved in the management of Poa annua greens, including winter recovery, texture management, and all associated cultural practices.
  • Directly involved in maintaining and operating our state-of-the-art Toro Lynx 8.0 irrigation system.
  • Application of granular and sprayable products including calibration, inventory, and record keeping.
  • Be directly involved with Human Resource Management, leading groups of people through various projects and general course maintenance with an emphasis on quality control.

Desired Experience

  • Current or graduated student in a recognized turfgrass/golf course management program.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in a leadership or internship role.
  • Actively wants to become an Assistant Superintendent.
  • Person with a positive attitude and passion for the golf course business.
  • Pesticide Applicators license is an asset but not required.
  • Person with a drive to consistently contribute to a healthy working environment.

Compensation and Perks

  • Hourly Rate determined by one’s experience/education. Wage Range $26 to $35.
  • AGSA, CGSA, GCSAA association membership dues covered.
  • Attend 2026 AGSA Property Managers Conference.
  • Cover costs associated with earning an Alberta Pesticide Applicators License.
  • Club Uniform & PPE supplied. Club covers costs of footwear, gloves, and rain gear.
  • Work week will consist of 5 days on 2 days off schedule. 40hrs per week plus available overtime.
  • This is seasonal 9-month position that has the opportunity to become a year-round salary position.
