Description of Role

The Equipment Manager is a key member of the Derrick Club Turf Care Leadership Team. The person in this role is responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing the Club’s full fleet of turf and maintenance equipment. The Equipment Manager ensures that all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably to support daily course operations. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Equipment Manager will contribute to safety standards, equipment planning, and the professional development of the maintenance team.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical issues on all golf course maintenance equipment.
• Schedule, perform, and document preventative maintenance to minimize downtime.
• Conduct routine servicing and repairs on equipment such as tractors, riding mowers, hand mowers, utility vehicles, and small engines.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace in the maintenance facility.
• Lead equipment setup, adjustments, and calibration to ensure optimal cutting quality and machine performance.
• Assist Leadership Team in budget planning, equipment lifecycle management, and long-term maintenance strategies.
• Monitor and maintain positive working relationships with suppliers and vendors.
• Collaborate with the Leadership Team on:
– Seasonal operational priorities
– Equipment strategies
– Safety initiatives
• Ensure all equipment is operated and maintained according to manufacturer specifications, workplace safety standards, and club policies.

Desired Experience

• Technical training or certification in turf equipment technology, automotive, or heavy-duty mechanics (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 3+ years’ experience working in golf course, turf equipment, agricultural, or related mechanical roles.
• Strong competency with small engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and turf-specific machinery.
• Demonstrated welding and fabrication skills.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage repairs efficiently.
• Computer skills, including:
– Equipment diagnostic or calibration software
– Preventive maintenance logging systems
– Spreadsheet tracking (Excel or similar)
– Email and digital communication platforms
• Leadership experience is an asset, such as project coordination, mentoring, or shop workflow management.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
