Inglewood Golf & Curling Club is currently seeking a detail oriented, enthusiastic person to join our team in the role of Assistant Superintendent. Inglewood is a non-profit, semi-private, year-round facility located minutes from downtown Calgary. Established in 1932, the club has been a staple in the Calgary golf community for over 90 years. Inglewood is a forward-thinking club, that over the last several years has made significant commitments to ensuring success well into the future. In 2017 we completed a full course irrigation renovation and have committed to a long-term Course/Club Enhancement Plan.

Description of Role

The Assistant Superintendent role is a year-round, salaried position that reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent.  The successful candidate must be able to lead a team of approximately 25-30 people with clear and respectful communication, strong organizational skills, a keen eye for detail and a solid understanding of agronomics.  We’re looking for someone with a passion for the game of golf, that understands the importance of a team first mentality and that always has a willingness to learn and grow.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist in the implementation of all aspects of golf course maintenance, while adhering to our club’s maintenance and safety standard policies.
  • Staff recruitment, training and organization/supervision.
  • Assist in the management, evaluation and discipline of staff.
  • Ability to mentor and lead while managing workload efficiently.
  • Help to maintain a strong work culture where everyone feels a part of the team.
  • Take active role in daily and long-term planning sessions.
  • Plan and execute fertilizer and pesticide applications.
  • Keep up-to-date and accurate pesticide/fertilizer records.
  • Plan, lead and execute a variety of projects and cultural practices.
  • Report daily to Superintendent and other members of the Leadership Team observations and ideas for the golf course.
  • Coordinate with Proshop/Food and Beverage on a variety of member and corporate tournaments, as well as, frost delays or anything that could significantly impact play.
  • Assist in retention of our Audubon Certification.
  • Assist in daily irrigation scheduling, supplemental watering and repairs.
  • Must actively seek out and participate in continuing education opportunities.
  • Willingness to assist mechanic
  • Help in the curling rink in winter months when needed (may require an occasional evening and/or weekend).
  • During the winter months help direct curling staff.
  • Be available for on call snow removal when required.
  • Play some golf.

Desired Experience

  • Golf Course Maintenance Experience (Preferably 3+ years)
  • A Degree or Diploma from a recognized Turf Management Program, either completed or in the process of completing.
  • A valid Alberta Pesticide Applicators license or the ability to obtain one within the first year
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Experience as a Foreman or 2nd Assistant not a must, but considered an asset.
  • Irrigation, spraying and fertilizer experience not a must, but considered an asset.
