Description of Role
The Lacombe Golf & Country Club is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to join our team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated turf professional to grow within a hands-on, team-oriented environment. The successful candidate will lead by example while working alongside the Superintendent in overseeing a maintenance team of approximately 12 staff, gaining experience in all aspects of golf course maintenance, irrigation, and crew leadership while contributing to the club’s high standards of course conditioning.
Responsibilities and Duties
Provide daily course condition updates and recommendations to the Superintendent
Assist with daily operations including course setup, irrigation, mowing, and bunker maintenance
Lead by example in daily operations, demonstrating professionalism, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic
Assist in supervising and coordinating daily tasks for a maintenance team of approximately 12 staff
Enforce maintenance standards and health & safety policies
Assume leadership responsibilities in the Superintendent’s absence
Train and supervise staff on equipment operation and safety procedures
Assist in maintaining buildings, equipment, and property
Support pesticide and fertilizer applications using IPM principles
Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain irrigation systems
Assist in planning and executing course improvement projects
Desired Experience
Irrigation and spraying experience
Previous experience as a foreman or Assistant Superintendent
Diploma or degree in Turf Management (or currently working toward completion)
Previous experience in golf course or grounds maintenance considered an asset
Familiarity with automated irrigation systems preferred
Valid Alberta pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain)
Strong organizational skills and work ethic
Proven leadership and team-building abilities
