Description of Role

Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

Dorchester Ranch Golf Course | Westerose, Alberta
Pigeon Lake area, approximately 55 minutes south of Edmonton

Looking to take the next step in your turf-management career?

Dorchester Ranch Golf Course is seeking a hands-on Assistant Superintendent with strong golf-course irrigation experience. This is an opportunity to help lead our maintenance team, have meaningful input into course improvements, and build the skills and experience needed for a future Superintendent role.

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in great playing conditions, enjoys working alongside a crew, and is comfortable taking initiative.

What you’ll do

  • Take a lead role in irrigation: operate, program, maintain and troubleshoot the irrigation system, including heads, valves, wiring, controllers and the pump station.
  • Work closely with the Superintendent to plan daily maintenance, set priorities and coordinate course projects.
  • Help schedule, train and supervise the grounds crew while working alongside them.
  • Prepare the course for daily play, leagues and tournaments, and carry out mowing, rolling, topdressing, aeration, seeding and other turf-maintenance practices.
  • Apply fertilizer and pest-control products, maintain accurate records, and assist with equipment care and inventory.
  • Oversee day-to-day maintenance operations when the Superintendent is away.

What we’re looking for

  • Proven golf-course irrigation experience is required, including diagnosing and repairing leaks, heads, valves and wiring, as well as programming and adjusting watering schedules.
  • At least two years of golf-course maintenance experience. Previous supervisory experience is an asset.
  • A turfgrass management diploma or certificate from Olds College or a similar program is preferred. Current students with suitable hands-on experience are also encouraged to apply.
  • An Alberta Pesticide Applicator Certificate, or the ability to obtain one.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • A dependable work ethic, clear communication skills, and the ability to lead by example.
  • Availability for early mornings, weekends and holidays during the golf season.

An additional asset: Mechanical ability, including basic equipment repairs, reel and blade maintenance, and troubleshooting turf equipment.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.
  • Meaningful involvement in course decisions, improvements and projects.
  • Support for continuing education and relevant certifications.
  • Staff golf privileges and a great crew in a beautiful setting near Pigeon Lake.
  • A possible on-site RV site for the right candidate.

Anticipated start date: March 1, 2027 (flexible for the right candidate).

How to apply

Email your résumé and a short cover letter to dorchester.kyle@gmail.com, or drop them off at the clubhouse.

Please describe your golf-course irrigation experience in your cover letter, including the systems you have worked with and the troubleshooting and repairs you have handled.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received.
